Beese’s have been donating proceeds from ticket sales for our Beer, Cider & Music festival every year since 2007 to the Friends of Eastwood Farm and Friends of Troopers Hill groups. They are volunteers who work hard to maintain the Local Nature Reserves on both sides of the river near Beese’s for wildlife to thrive and people to enjoy. Our donations have been boosted by sponsorship of our annual beerfest by Bath Ales, Butcombe Brewery and Wickwar Brewing Company.

These donations have enabled the groups to continue to improve both reserves. Eastwood Farm run practical projects such as a series of ecological surveys, and for three years’ running there was a series of themed guided walks with such titles as Owl Prowl, Bat Walk, Bugs & Beasties, Foraging Walk and Moth Night.

They also found time for some dog shows! There were all sorts of prizes at the second dog show in 2014 including best child handler under twelve years old, best veteran dog over seven years, and waggiest tail, and it was judged by the Highcroft Veterinary Group who also offered free microchipping on the day.

Friends of Troopers Hill don’t always use the donations for specific projects but they have helped allow this volunteer group to put on events and fund running costs.

Ma Beese has also been involved in putting together a bid for funds to improve the play area at the top of the lane.
